New website backs Government’s encouragement for living on boats THE world’s number one online yacht brokerage system is about to launch a brand new website which could boost the government’s campaign to have more people living on the water.

The government is offering councils financial incentives to allow more moorings for houseboats on waterways.
Perhaps it’s no great shock to hear that marine crime is on the increase, but particularly worrying is the shear scale of current thefts from boats in Devon and Cornwall. All too often boat crime is seen as ‘a minor inconvenience that the insurance will cover’ but its clear that what is going on in many cases is well organised, well thought out mass theft of outboards in particular. In some cases some yards have been targeted not once, but twice within a matter of weeks and its likely outboards were all but being stolen to order.
The Boatshed conference 2011 was a great success. Two days spent in and around Portsmouth Dockyard as well as Boatshed HQ in Gosport; with lots of lectures, group meetings and workshops. Approximately 30 Boatsheds came to the event, travelling from destinations across Europe and even as far as Phuket in the Far East.
This week sees Boatshed.com pass the 400,000 registered customer mark.
Its come round to this time of year, your boats hull is weedy, she is sluggish under power and takes time to respond, plus urgently needs to be scrubbed off and anodes all checked for the new seasons sailing.
After huge expansion of the group over the past few years the Boatshed.com team have opted for a new form of transport, with 15 luxuriously-appointed offices the new Boatshed Head Quarters is due to be commissioned this month.
