At Boatshed we pride ourselves on really getting to know the boats we have for sale. This means from time to time we come across vessels with such an interesting history it’s worth an extra mention.

This week the spotlight is on a Whitbread 60 yacht.

Designed by Bruce Farr and built by Green Marine in built in 1992 for the 1993/4 Whitbread Around the World Race*. She was skippered by Lawrie Smith from the second leg onwards and finished 2nd overall. She also broke a new World record for the number of miles sailed by a monohull yacht in 24 hours – 428.7 miles.

The current owners have used her for corporate sailing events. They have languished a great deal of care and attention on her. It’s nice to be able to crawl around a performance yacht and not get filthy dirty – even in the stern and bow she is clean and dry.

Whether you are looking to race or entertain she has a MCA licence to work commercially to carry up to 12 passengers up to 60 miles offshore – CAT 2 coding.

Boatshed Broker Neil says “ The current owners have taken great care to preserve lots of the original features but not skimped on maintenance or refurbishment, a recent Yanmar main engine with only 250 hours is a typical example of this regime“

Please contact Boatshed broker Sam to organise an appointment to view.

*The Whitbread Round the World Race, which became the Volvo Ocean Race in 2001 is the toughest Ocean Race, sending the fleet of super fast boats with the prevailing winds around the Globe. The course is deliberately plotted through some of Earth’s most inhospitable environments, through massive ocean swells, iceberg and growler strewn Southern Ocean Seas, and screaming storms around the Capes on this 33,000 mile, 9 month challenge.
